R-Biopharm AG is one of Germany’s leading biotechnology companies. As a global market leader in test systems for allergen analysis, R-Biopharm also focuses on the detection of molds, known as mycotoxins. With the help of the RIDA®SMART APP, thousands of test results for mycotoxins have already been recorded and quantified in food production.
Medialesson supported R-Biopharm AG in the conception and development of its new platform, RIDA®SMART UNIVERSE, by providing architects, a designer, and a dedicated development team. In close and agile collaboration with a product owner, a stakeholder, and a developer from R-Biopharm AG, Medialesson designed and implemented the entire platform within just four months.

RIDA®SMART UNIVERSE is built on a modular, event-driven client-server architecture. In addition to a web app, the existing RIDA®SMART APP also communicates with the server. The server provides two separate HTTP APIs, each optimized for the specific needs of the respective app (see Backend for Frontend pattern, or BFF).
The server application is deployed as an Azure Container App, enabling fully scalable delivery without downtime thanks to blue-green deployments. A schemaless database solution based on Azure CosmosDB allows changes to data models to be applied on the fly - without compromising performance.
A fully automated DevOps process ensures that each new feature is deployed step by step to development, test, and production environments. This allows for the seamless release of new functionality and bug fixes without interrupting the workflows of stakeholders.
The modular, event-driven architecture forms the foundation of a long-lasting and extensible platform. The entire cloud infrastructure is defined using Bicep and can be deployed or replicated at any time with the push of a button (Infrastructure as Code, IaC).
All platform source code is maintained in a monorepo, ensuring full transparency, long-term traceability, and the ability to roll back changes if necessary.
